I Saw the Movie of the Summer Tonight

My dad and i saw "War of the Worlds." It was good, but not overwhelming. I think i would have been more receptive if i had seen it on the weekend when i was not so tired.

I won't give anything away, but here are two things that i liked:

1. The sound the aliens ships make

2. The dialoge voiceover at the opening of the movie. I'm glad Speilberg lifted the words directly from the book, because it was well written.

"...intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this Earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us."

A Moment of Humor

I recieved this as part of a "funny sayings" email. This one was my favorite because there is a lot to laugh at packed into the two short sentences:

Bill Peterson, a Florida State football coach:

"You guys line up alphabetically by height." and

" You guys pair up in groups of three, then line up in a circle."

Personal Communication Device

In a previous post, i wrote how much a hate my cell phone.

I still hate it, but my hatered has abated somewhat because i have come to call it my "personal communication device." This tricks my mind into believing that i am not just another boob with a cell phone. The new description also gives it a Star Trek sci-fi nerdiness that i like.

I think i'll always be ashamed of my cell phone (whenever i use it i try to go to a space where no one can see me), but at least it's not my cell phone any longer.

That Liberal Rag

I've had a subscription to the Sunday New York Times for about two years. I started reading it in college because many of my political science and international studies professors used stories from The Times in their teaching, and i found the stories to be well written and very interesting. I like how the paper covers stories in an unemotional way, as well as more accurately and with more depth than most papers.

My parents have always referred to The Times as "that liberal rag." However, i have enjoyed watching them go from glancing at the front page, to reading the front page, to looking at the front pages of the other sections, to reading the other sections in depth, to reading almost the entire paper before i have had a chance to read it (i havent switched the delivery from the house to my apartment -too much hassle and confusion for the delivery people. I've had a lot of problems in the past receiving my paper. By the way, i know this is way too much to include in one parenthese).

My evil plan of secretly liberalizing my parents through the news media is falling into place.

The Excrement is Gone

It took about 30 minutes, using a pet spot/stain remover. Nine small patches of my carpet are now minty fresh.

As is probably evident, i've been experimenting with the template. This one, for some reason, does not have a "links" section. If anyone knows how i can add this, please let me know. I know nothing about programming.

A Fun Evening Activity

Here's a fun activity for those that find themselves dulled by television during the evening. Go for a walk, then come back to your apartment not realizing that you have stepped in dog excrement, tracking it all over your carpet. Then, spend the next 20 minutes on your knees looking, AND SMELLING, for the excrement.

Because my carpet is light brown, i've placed strips of paper towel over each spot so i will know where they are tomorrow, when i'll purchase carpet stain remover. There are nine spots.

Doing the Deed

Working in a law office, this phrase comes up occasionally. For example, someone will say "what agency is taking care of the Miller closing?" to which someone else will reply "Eagle Title Company is doing the deed."
